Style Spotlight: Red Ale

My love for with Irish Red Ales goes back all the way to my college days. As a server at Rock Bottom, I was frequently asked to recommend beers to customers that weren’t sure they liked beer.  The red ale became my go to, and here’s why: it’s in the beer sweet spot. It’s right smack in the middle of the beer flavor profiles – not too hoppy, not too malty. A good red ale is like a good old friend- consistently awesome, but not too “out there”. Red Ales are (you guessed it!) red in color; ranging from amber […]

Trek July Update

Well friends, we’ve made it to the end of July already. Somehow half of summer slipped away, and I feel like we’ve been so busy we haven’t even noticed it. We’ve had a lot of exciting things happening for or at Trek this month, so it’s time to bring you all up to speed. First let’s talk about the changes that are taking place over at the brewery. After our success with our Indiegogo campaign, we started work on clearing out the existing landscaping for our patio. It’s going to be a really amazing space to hang out! We cleared […]

Style Spotlight: Vanilla Stout

When John first started brewing in our first apartment, we were pleasantly surprised with his first creation. The second and third were pretty terrible. The fourth was great. So on and so forth for awhile as he perfected his techniques. One day, something magical happened. Out of the fermenter came a perfect beer – one so outstanding I’m sure I heard angels singing when I tasted it. From that day on, I decided that John could continue to brew as often as he wanted, as long as he kept Vanilla Stout around all the time. He pretty much does this […]

Style Spotlight: Pale Ale

We know that a lot of you are interested to hear what we are going to brew at Trek. The answer John likes to give is “Any kind of beer we like to drink.” Good news guys… that’s pretty much all the beers.   The additional good news is – John is pretty darn good at brewing across styles. He’s won medals in several different categories of beers, from lighter ales, to red ales, to stouts and barley wines. We’re going to start picking out some beers to highlight for you all and for you to get excited about. We’re […]

Thank you!!!

All week I’ve been looking for the words to adequately express how grateful we are to all of you. Our Indiegogo campaign ended on June 30th at midnight. Because of you guys, we not only met our goal of $15,000 in 30 days- we EXCEEDED it; raising $16,116 in our 30 days. We think that that is pretty remarkable. The first few days of the campaign were incredible – we got to a third of our goal in just three days. From that point on, things just kept slowly building. In fact, in the whole 30 day campaign we only […]

Grain to Glass

On Monday, John woke up at 5 am to begin brewing. At 11 am he was logged in to work at Boeing. What happened between 5 and 11 was a little bit of magic, a little bit of science, a little bit of luck, and a lot of heavy lifting. We’re currently brewing on the system that John made, which will be the pilot system for the brewery. The system is fully electric, and right now John brews in 5 or 10 gallon batches. When this pilot system is up at Trek, he’ll be brewing 1 barrel of beer at […]

Trek June Update

They say that time flies when you are having fun, and that must be true because; guess what guys, it’s June. More unbelievably it is almost the end of June. Which means it is time that we update you on our progress this month. For all the time flying and fun being had, it has been a BUSY month for Trek! Over at the brewery we’re finally making forward progress. Demo is happening! We’re ripping out ceilings! We’re destroying closets! We’re moving out kitchen equipment. We’re carefully lining up chairs and tables so that we don’t destroy them. It is […]

Indiegogoing Along

Hey Friends! Our Indiegogo Campaign is in full swing now. It is going really well – we’ve raised over half of our goal and we’ve still got over 2 weeks left. We’ve noticed that there are still several questions that linger about the campaign, and we’re going to try to address them in one place, a little Trek Indiegogo FAQ if you will… Should I donate now or wait until the end? While we appreciate your donation at ANY time, it helps us the most if you donate now. Campaigns that show momentum are pushed out by Indiegogo to potential […]

Collaboration Not Competition

There was an article about Trek Brewing this week in the local newspaper. The reporter  did an excellent job of paralleling the 3 breweries in planning that are set to open in Licking County within the next few month. Several people have asked John and I what we thought about all these breweries coming in to the same county at the same time – and honestly – we’re excited. Craft brewers have a community that is unlike many in the corporate world – instead of competition it is collaboration. Craft beer is still very much a “little guy” standing up […]

Indiegogo June 1-30

Friends, TODAY is the day we’ve been talking about forever. Today is the day that our Indiegogo campaign goes live. We talked about what Indiegogo is last week, and how it works. We also told you that all of the money raised from the Indiegogo project will be going toward building an outside patio space at Trek. We are unbelievably excited about it, and we know you’re excited too. Our campaign will run for 30 days starting today, so we’ll officially wrap it up June 30th. We’re hoping to raise $15,000 through the campaign, which will help us make the […]
