Hey everyone! Happy Thursday! We’ve almost made it to the end of another week. Anyone else feel like the days are going faster than they used to? Tonight is another incredible Trek Together.  Trek Together is the program we created to help us change the world for the better, one beer at a time. Tonight we’re proud to partner with the Alzheimer’s Association- Central Ohio Chapter.

I’ll be the first to admit that I knew next to nothing about Alzheimers. Of course I’d heard of the disease, and I know several people that have been diagnosed with it or other dementias. However, the little bit of research that I’ve done into this topic in the last few days has absolutely blown my mind. 5.8 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease, and that number is rapidly rising. In fact, every 65 seconds someone else in America develops Alzheimers, and it is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. This year Alzheimers and other dementias will cost the nation 290 billion dollars, and by 2050 projections show that it will cost about 1.1 trillion dollars. It’s more prevalent than breast cancer and prostate cancer COMBINED. After looking at these facts, I was absolutely shocked.

The mission of the Alzheimer’s Association is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.

The Alzheimer’s Association is working to connect potential clinical trial members in an effort to aid in the advancement of research. This Trek Together is a chance to learn more about this incredible organization.
