The Bottom Line
Whenever we hear the term “bottom line” it is usually in a negative connotation. Some business is cutting corners, or laying off employees, and it’s all in the name of “the bottom line.” It is centered around making the finances look better. However, there is a more recent use of the bottom line: Triple Bottom Line.
The triple bottom line does not remove the economics of business from the equation, but rather leverages the economics to also put an emphasis on people and the environment. Triple bottom line puts a focus on sustainability by bringing the economics of business together with a focus on serving people and protecting the environment.
We’ve talked about our passion to serve our community. Trek Brewing Company is committed to being an active member of our community. That starts with serving the community. From the day we open our doors, we’ll be working to give back to the community that supports us through our Trek Together program. If you’ve got a great idea that will help our local community, we want to hear about it!
We have not been as vocal about our efforts to protect the environment, but don’t worry, we are always looking for opportunities to minimize our impact. It is no secret that it takes a lot to produce a pint of beer: a lot of water, energy, and raw materials. We will be recapturing water that was used for chilling beer for use in another beer. We’ve been working with local farmers to arrange for our spent grains to be used for animal feed. We are constantly on the lookout to source local when we can – for whatever we’re doing, including construction, beer ingredients, food, wine, and craft soda. We’ve still got a long way to go on this journey, and we will continue to work to minimize our impact on the environment.
This adventure is so much more than just a business for us. It is our dream, our passion, our chance to make the world a little bit better. We’re looking forward making this Trek (see what we did there?), and we hope you’ll join in the excitement with us.
Cheers, Friends!
