I am SO excited to share our blog post today. It’s time to talk about my very favorite event of the year! Starting today, you can purchase your tickets for our annual 0.5k. Yes, you read that right, it is a POINT 5k. We call it the run with a point.

Here’s the deal. I HATE running. Despise it.  I enjoy activities like swimming specifically because there is no running involved. However, I am super jealous of all my friends that do 5k’s and get really cool shirts. I LOVE a really cool shirt. Therefore, the 0.5k was born. This is quite literally a run around our parking lot. It’s so very do-able. It’s a ton of fun. It’s a run for everyone.

The run with a point isn’t just a fun run, it’s a fun run that also benefits the community. A run with a point. (See what we did there?). Your $25 ticket includes an awesome performance tee shirt (runner swag), your first drink at Trek, AND a $5 donation to the Licking County Family YMCA’s All For One camp.

There’s no training necessary for this event. We won’t judge if you walk it. We also won’t judge if you show up in full on marathon gear. You do you. If you feel like you might need a warm up,  I suggest hanging out with my children for a bit. They have boundless energy, and they’re also pretty great cheerleaders.

All For One is an inclusive camp experience for special needs students.  The All For One campers have a very small student to counselor ratio- at the most 3:1. They are included with the whole day camp for opening and closing circle, lunch time, and swim time. The All For One campers get to have a true summer camp experience and the LCFYMCA is proud to have this amazing experience for these incredible kids.

Last year’s event had 80 people, which was amazing for the first year! We raised over 33 days of camp for special needs campers. (That’s over 6 weeks of camp if you’re doing the math!) We’re hoping that this year’s event is going to be even more awesome.

Also, just like last year, DJ Tony Adams will be at the starting line. He’ll help get you hyped up, and he’ll be there to help announce the winners. We’re lucky to have Tony as a friend of Trek AND the YMCA, and thankful that he’ll be there with us!

If you order your ticket before March 21st, you’ll have your shirt on the day of the event. If you miss that deadline, no worries. You can still get your swag, but it will be available for pick up the week following the event. We’ll be doing an additional shirt order on the 4th. This way, we can make sure everyone gets the size that they really want, because we want you to wear your cool 0.5k shirt proudly.
